The fourth annual Piers Festival commences this weekend in a celebration of Victoria’s rich cultural diversity and unique history of migration. This year we are very excited to announce the St Kilda Esplanade Market’s involvement in the Piers festival, with some of our wonderful stallholders joining the already impressive line-up of music, food and the arts.
Hosted by Multicultural Arts Victoria, the Piers festival is one of the largest celebrations of Multicultural arts in Australia, bringing together diverse communities and groups to all celebrate in one shared space. Established in 2012, The Piers Festival celebrates Victoria’s incredible cultural diversity by reflecting on the rich histories of both Station and Princes Pier. From the gold rush to wartime, from post-war migration to cruise shipping, the piers have played a pivotal role in Victoria’s growth and offered a gateway to the diversity of cultures that enrich our community.
The St Kilda Esplanade Market is excited to have several of its stall holders at the event to help represent our market and its diversity, including some of our favourite jewellery, fashion and indigenous arts stallholders.
With 10,000+ visitors from diverse cultural backgrounds coming along to join the celebrations held at the Port Melbourne piers precinct, the Piers Festival has become an annual highlight and a significant occasion for reflecting on our collective migration stories.
This year’s program will include the usual cream of multicultural performances from across the globe: choirs, dance, live music and all things multi-cultural arts.
Sunday 25th January 12 pm-9:30 pm at Princess Pier Port Melbourne.
